Monica with Carsten and Sully

Carsten

Carsten is an American Hairless Terrier Coated
Variety. Which means he carries the Hairless gene.
His daddy and all of his siblings have no hair. The
(hairless) AHT makes a great dog for those with
allergies. Since we have no allergies, we prefer our
dogs to have hair. AHTs used to be a 'variety' of the
Rat Terrier, but became their own breed in 2004.

Monica is Carsten's handler. She is currently showing
him in Conformation and Junior Showmanship (in UKC).
Jenny Boyd gave Monica and Carsten a great foundation.
Carsten has achieved his UKC Champion title and is now
working on his Grand Champion. However, the show ring
is not his favorite thing. He is still a bit too 'exuberant'.
But he just turned one, so we think that he will settle down
in time.

What he LOVES to do is Terrier Race! He has done
wonderfully in his 'puppy fun runs'. Now that he is
a year old, he can compete for points, and he hopes to
do his first official race in May. He just started Agility
with Pam Hughes and seems to really enjoy that as well!
Monica hopes to eventually compete with Carsten in Agility
and Flyball too.

Updates for Carsten:
5/2010- Mr Carsten won all of his Flat and Steeple classes as well as all of the Flat and Steeple "Fastest Dog" (all breeds, all classes) this weekend.

April 12/2010:
Monica and CarstenMonica and Carsten earned the following this past weekend at the Purcellville, VA Agility trial:

- 3 Ag1 Q's (and first, second and fourth placement ribbons) AND the last run was a perfect 200 score in 35 seconds (ACT 60 sec).

- 2 AG2 Q's (and a first and second placement).  Needs another Q to get his AG2 title.

- 3 (out of 4) Best of Junior Handler awards with competition.

Great facility, well run trial and 174 entries in total, so well attended.

March 2010:
Carsten with Kathy

Carsten (Handled by mom, Kathy)
Since super junior handler Monica had a conflict of scheduling, Monica's mom, Kathy, decided to try her hand at agility with Carsten. On their first trial together as a team, they Q'd in all 4 AG1 trials!! Kathy reports that she is totally " in a dream", and had an awesome time showing Carsten. It just proves she was paying attention all those nights that she brought Monica to agility class! Carsten titled and placed 2nd and 1st!!
Great job team!!!

What an accomplishment!!! Great job Monica and Carsten!!!!!
Town and Country Agility and Rally team member, Monica Jones, was named UKC's 2009 Total Junior Award winner!

The Total Junior Award recognizes the Total Junior Members who have successfully trained and participated with their dogs in multiple UKC Dog Events Programs. To be eligible for this award, a participant must earn points from the UKC licensed Junior Showmanship classes and at least two of the following performance events: Agility, Dog Sport, Obedience and/or Weight Pull. Points for this award may be accumulated from all eligible events and classes. However, if point totals from any single event exceed 60 percent of the Junior Members total combined points, the Junior Member is disqualified from being eligible for this award. All Junior members eligible for the award will then be ranked by their Total points earned to determine the Total Junior Award winner. The Total Junior award is aligned with the UKC Total Dog™ philosophy of "Our Dogs Do Stuff" and rewards the Junior Member's substantial involvement in a variety of events
Monica finished in the Top 10 in her Region in Junior Showmanship, Agility and Weight Pull and will therefore be invited to compete in all 3 of these events in July at the International Dog Show in Richmond,
Indiana. This event, called Premier, is the UKC version of AKC's Westminster. Additionally, her dog Carsten, finished on the UKC Year End All Star list as: tied for first in his division for Terrier Racing - Steeple and was #2 in Terrier Racing - Flat. She will receive her Total Junior Award at this event.

September 2009:

Carsten (with Monica handling)
- 1st place in both Flat and Steeple (and Fastest Dog in his division
for both Flat and Steeple) both on Saturday and Sunday. He now
has his USR title (United Steeple Racer). He is one fast doggie and
LOVES it!!
- We tried Weight Pull with Carsten on Saturday, just for grins. He

actually pulled great! Got a "Q", 4th in his weight class pulling 195lbs
and got Monica a Best of Juniors in Weight Pull.

8/2009: UKC Conformation- Carsten was a
VERY good boy and won his Champion
class (one leg - of 5 needed - towards his Grand Champion/Finish), Best of Breed and 4th in group!

Monica showed someone else's American Hairless Terrier and got a 2nd in Open Junior Handler for S1, and 1st in S2 and her first Best of Juniors!!

7/4/2009- Carsten is awarded his CGC!!!!
...and celebrates with icecream!

6/2009-UKC Premier

Carsten is back from UKC Premier in Michigan (akin to
AKCs Westminster). He wasnt able to race on Sunday
because Monica had to be at ECU for band camp).

He won his Flat and Steeple races in his division on both
Fri and Saturday. So we think he has his first racing title
(UFR - United Flat Racer) now.

On Saturday Purina sponsored an exhibition race "Fastest
APR Flat racer" (it is not for points, just for "brags" and
prizes). He won (out of 45 dogs). They sponsored a steeple
too (he came in 2nd).

It was definitely an experience!!! So many dogs, so much
to see. He also tried lure coursing and dock jumping (for fun,
not for competition). LOVED lure coursing, not keen on the
jumping off of the dock - but he would jump off of the ramp).
We took him to watch agility, but had to take him back to the
crates, because he was screamin' & hollerin' to get in there. Perhaps
next year. (UKC Agility 1 has no teeters. IF Monica could have
kept his attention on her, he could have done all of the obstacles.)
